Renton, Washington is a strategically located Seattle suburb, situated on the southern end of Lake Washington. There is direct freeway access to Bellevue and other eastside communities as well as to major shopping malls and the airport. Apartment homes are plentiful, ranging from smaller studio units to full-size 3-bedroom apartments for families. Because of the recent economic downturn across the nation, Renton offers some of the most affordable apartment living in the entire Pacific Northwest.
The city began as a logging depot and coal mining village. Because of its location adjacent to Lake Washington, business entrepreneurs recognized the significance of Renton's location as a launch point for barges. The opening of the Chittenden Locks in 1917 meant that large vessels from Puget Sound could now easily make their way to the Renton waterfront. This resulted in a boom town expansion that continued for decades. Today Renton is a wonderful mix of old and new, with historical buildings standing alongside modern boutiques, retail outlets and fine restaurants.
Those planning to relocate to the Seattle area will be pleased to learn about the affordability of Renton apartments. The presence of major industrial giants like Boeing and Paccar is the primary reason for the large number of apartment complexes and smaller rental properties throughout the city. Renton is noted for its lower than average monthly rental rates. Prices for most apartments have risen less than 10 percent over the past decade.
The mild climate of the Puget Sound region means wonderfully landscaped grounds in most of the apartment complexes in Renton. Winters are mild, with roses blooming at Christmas time. Contrary to popular belief, summers are quite moderate and very dry, with less than three inches of precipitation between July and September. Renters will enjoy the large number of supermarkets, automobile service centers, restaurants and city parks located near most of the larger apartment complexes in the city. The fine summer weather draws large crowds to the green, grassy parks as well as to nearby campgrounds, Lake Washington beaches and outdoor event centers.
The northern and eastern sections of the city are filled with smaller, older apartment buildings that offer excellent lease rates. Most of these apartments are in the Renton Highlands, located just a few minute's drive from the nearest interstate freeway. To the south, apartment complexes are numerous in the Fairwood and Candlewood neighborhoods, many of them surrounded by tall, majestic fir trees and containing such amenities as swimming pools, weight rooms and playground areas. All of the modern apartment units in Renton have laundry facilities, multiple cable outlets and energy-efficient water heaters. Many have beautiful wood burning fireplaces and are equipped with air conditioning.
Mass transit is a popular way to get around the Seattle area, and most of the apartment complexes in Renton are near bus stops and park-and-ride facilities. Even the outlying neighborhoods are just a 10-minute bus ride from the Boeing complex, the downtown area and the lakefront. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is only eight minutes away by car. Downtown Seattle can be reached either from the west or by freeway via one of the modern floating bridges spanning Lake Washington.
Students planning to attend one of the several nearby community colleges are encouraged to look at the affordable rental rates for studios and shared housing in the Renton area. Those taking a job at the Boeing facility will find the commute from area apartments very short.
Renton is also located in an area well-connected to many of the other highways and byways leading to popular attractions. Mt. Rainier National Park is just 90 minutes from downtown Renton. The beautiful Snoqualmie Falls is located only 30 minutes to the east. Popular state parks in the area offer pristine wilderness hiking trails, secluded campgrounds and wildlife viewing. Boating on Lake Washington is a favorite pastime for those living in the Renton area, and public launch ramps are found up and down the eastern shore of the lake.
Are you looking to find peaceful, relaxing apartment living in the Puget Sound area? Come to Renton and enjoy low rental prices, easy access to schools and shopping, wonderful natural attractions and excellent public transportation. For 80,000 people, Renton means home sweet home.
